Trumpeter Swans

Trumpeter swans mate for life. In spring they nest and lay 3-8 eggs. Their young are called cygnets and they are gray colored during their first year of life and then their feathers gradually turn white. Many of our trumpeter swan images were taken in Monticello, MN where trumpeter swans winter on the banks of the Mississippi River and are fed by a local family that is dedicated to restoring the trumpeter swan population that was at one time at risk for becoming extinct.
